I'm Reading Comeeks

Or at least that's what Revival is trying to be.  As far as I see it, however, Revival has way too much going on to be labeled simply noir.  I'm not saying that noir can't include zombies, ghosts, aliens, serial killers, magic or conspiracy theories, I'm just saying maybe not all that at once.  There is so much going on that the most important element of Noir, the chase, the detection, the figuring out of the puzzle, gets muddled and forgotten as we chase other characters, events, switching from one murder investigation, to a body harvesting investigation to something involving a Hmong woman and stolen property or something...it gets confusing.

Which to me is the major failing of what should be a great series.  There is just too much going on to make sense and keep me interested and invested.  The first volume of the series was great, introducing small town cop and troubled single mom Dana Cypress and her family as the main protagonists, people who I got to know and like.  If the story had simply stayed centered on Cypress and her investigations after "Revival Day," that would have been enough I think, especially with the added elements of black market body parts and Dana's sister, those three interweaving plots are definitely enough for a compelling story.

The best thing about volume four; Escape to Wisconsin was the last bonus chapter which was a crossover with Chew.  Hil-ar-ious.  I hope they do more of that.  And less with the creepy fetus ghost.  Definitely less of that.
