I'm Reading Comeeks

I dedicate this blog to comics in all forms, manga, autobio, superhero, art books, etc.  And of course, since I need a challenge, I've decided that I'll read and write (short) reviews for 365 comics during 2015.

The Hidden

The Hidden - Richard Sala

I really like Richard Sala's art.  My favorite of his graphic novels is definitely the Grave Robber's Daughter, starring Judy Drood who is an ass-kicking 'girl detective.'

The Hidden starts out with an average day - or not!  It's the end of the world, people are being stabbed, ripped apart and murdered in the streets.  One bearded professor obviously knows something, but flees in terror, it's every man, woman and child for themselves!

A couple of survivors find the professor later and despite their fear of his demented state help him up and let him join them on the road.  He leads them to what he calls a sanctuary, but what turns out to be another death trap.

Readers are left wondering what the Professor had to do with these apocalyptic events and whose side is he on?

The art is gruesome and absolutely the best, I love Sala's handwritten word bubbles as well, everything lends itself to the gothic and disturbing feel of the book.

And the ending!  The ending!!!  Seriously, this book is so awesome and the ending sends an absolute chill down your spine.

For fans of creepy stories, Emily Carroll and just weird but awesome art.

Also check out The Grave Robber's Daughter (another one of those titles...)
