I dedicate this blog to comics in all forms, manga, autobio, superhero, art books, etc. And of course, since I need a challenge, I've decided that I'll read and write (short) reviews for 365 comics during 2015.
Wandering Son continues with it's beautiful illustrations and wonderful storytelling into the 8th volume, the kids are now entering 8th grade and tensions are rising.
Shu has a girlfriend now, so does that mean he has to give up wearing skirts and other cute things? Also, Doi catches Shu hanging out with Yuki-san and demands to meet her and see Shu dressed up, is he just bullying as usual or what?
Takatsuki-san isn't quite brave enough to come to the entrance ceremony dressed in the boy's uniform, but she does put on a tie instead of the girl's uniform bow.
Whether or not you or someone you love is struggling or confused by gender identity this is a wonderful read that would strike a chord in all who pick it up. The tales of friendship gone wrong, unrequited love and in general just trying to figure out who you are, make this series a must read for me.
Having been a reader of this comic for a long time I still cannot wait to read it each time I see a new volume at the library.
Those who enjoy Mariko and Jillian Tamaki's comics would definitely enjoy these (and vice versa!).
