I'm Reading Comeeks

I dedicate this blog to comics in all forms, manga, autobio, superhero, art books, etc.  And of course, since I need a challenge, I've decided that I'll read and write (short) reviews for 365 comics during 2015.

I'm the Hero of My Own Story!?

Three-Story Books: Birdcatdog - Lee Nordling, Meritxell Bosch

Oh boy!

The first of the three story graphic novel introduces young readers to the concept of different reactions and interpretations of the same story.

Each page is divided up (just like the FishFishFish book I already reviewed) into three sections, the top about a bird escaping his bird cage to enjoy the freedom of the open sky, the middle about a cat just looking for adventure and the bottom of the page devoted to the story of a dog who just wants to protect the yard.

Each 'story' is rendered in a different color tone, which is helpful, because it could get a little confusing exactly what was going on as the story revolves around one big chase scene with all sorts of animals getting involved.

I think that FishFishFish was a bit more successful in actually making me think about the three stories together and how different perspectives worked.  This time, all three stories felt a little too alike, especially the cat and dog.

It was still cute and would be a fun read for kids, since they'd need to provide the narration, especially once all the stories mix up into one huge chase scene.  The art is very friendly and vibrant.

I loved the final message at the end, taking a look at some of the other characters and saying, hey "everyone is the hero of their own story."  Now, I just need some super powers.
