I'm Reading Comeeks

I dedicate this blog to comics in all forms, manga, autobio, superhero, art books, etc.  And of course, since I need a challenge, I've decided that I'll read and write (short) reviews for 365 comics during 2015.

Depressing Stuff

Trash Market - Tadao Tsuge, Ryan Holmberg

A bunch of short comic stories about war, art, death, abuse, depression and survival.

All of the stories take place in Japan in the late 60's and early 70's, and a lot of it is at least partly autobiographical.

To say that I enjoyed reading these stories would be a lie.  They were really tough to read, it took me a long time to get through this comic story by story.  However, they are very realistic depictions of everyday life for those living in poverty in Japan, which is not commonly written about in manga.

I'd recommend reading this, if there is an interest in seeing other lives, other depictions of Japan that aren't samurai dramas or the lives of fake geisha.  It's pretty eye-opening.

Not much else to say, except perhaps having something like Adventure Time or some other light sweet comic to read in between the stories might be a good idea.
