I'm Reading Comeeks

I dedicate this blog to comics in all forms, manga, autobio, superhero, art books, etc.  And of course, since I need a challenge, I've decided that I'll read and write (short) reviews for 365 comics during 2015.

Battle Rages On

B.P.R.D Hell on Earth Volume 10: The Devils Wings by Mignola, Mike (2015) Paperback - Mike Mignola

I can't really tell you why I'm still reading B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth.  It's kind of like if Mike Mignola decided to take a page from the Dragon Ball Z playbook.  Endless battles rage across the world as creatures rise, grow, mutate and emerge to wreak havoc upon the Earth.  Our heroes fight against them, but there's always another level they must reach before the foe can be defeated and even then there is probably another villain to face, just endless battles.

And if that weren't enough, there is still other random paranormal this and that going down at the same time.

In this volume, with Johann occupied by both the Hell on Earth creatures of Japan, but also another monster who emerges from an experimental dimensional portal created by Japanese scientists.

With a nod to Japanese monster films, this monster emerges from the sewer laboratories of Tokyo to fight the other two Lovecraftian horrors.

The last story was my favorite. The story took place in Sante Fe, where a humongous abomination stands over the city.  It was nice to see Liz back to her former self, ready to fight, though Johann is right to want to find a solution that doesn't require her to be everywhere at once.  It was also nice to see a more personal touch to the story, involving a local character, though the ending I could have done without, but well...the story is called "Hell on Earth."

I'd recommend checking out the Hellboy comics before picking up B.P.R.D.  If you really like Hellboy, then check these out, if you're like, eh it was okay, the plot was the most interesting part, but the monster battles meh, then probably just skip this and go for something like Lobster Johnson or Sir Edward Grey instead.
